Step by Step Guide on How To Dry Your Hair Extensions

There are two ways you can dry your realistic hair extensions; by using a hair dryer or letting it air dry. While we all love a fresh blow out, excessive heat exposure may result in damaging your hair extensions over time. And although air drying your hair sounds like the safer option, you'll almost certainly have to use heat to style it after it's dry. So, what’s the best way to dry your hair extensions?

Real human hair extensions must be handled gently and cared for correctly to keep them looking silky, smooth, and realistic for longer. We will be covering two parts of this guide. One for preparation, and the other will teach you the process.

Preparation is the key

Step 1: Before you begin the process of drying your hair extensions, you must first gently brush them. After you’ve washed your extensions, use a detangling comb or Paddle Brush to ensure the hair is smooth and tangle-free.

Start from the bottom of your hair extensions and work your way to the top. Brushing from the ends will stop you from pulling on your hair and causing any breakage or damage to your hair extensions.

Step 2: After successfully brushing your hair, make sure there are no tangles or knots left. You should be able to run your fingers through your realistic hair extensions smoothly.

Step 3: Moisturise your hair. If your realistic hair extensions aren't moisturised correctly, they could become dry and brittle. After you've washed your hair extensions and before you start drying or applying heat, don't forget to use a good leave-in conditioner.

Step 4: Use heat protectant. It’s a good idea to invest in a quality heat protection spray. This will prevent the cuticles from breakage and ensure your hair extensions are smooth and sleek, maintaining their realistic appearance after blow-drying and styling.

The Drying Process

Step 1: Start by sectioning your hair depending on your desired style, then begin blow-drying it. Whenever using any heat styling tools, we recommend using a medium heat – nothing over 180 degrees – to prevent damaging your natural hair and your hair extensions.

Step 2: Begin at the roots. Concentrate on the roots as you begin to dry the hair. Before you start styling, dry this section to ensure that your hair extensions are sitting perfectly.

Step 3: Blow dry your hair in parts using a round or paddle brush. Begin with the parts that frame the face, as these are the most noticeable. Work your way back to the side sections, and end with the sections at the back of your head.

To keep the hair appearing sleek and silky, make sure the nozzle is pointing downward to settle any fly aways. To achieve a seamless and natural look, dry your natural hair and hair extensions together.

Step 4: To get the best results, ensure that your hair is completely dry before styling. Please don’t use direct heat from a curling wand or straightening iron while your hair is still damp, this will result in irreversible damage and breakage.

Finally: Use a round brush on the top portions of hair to get that natural volume and sleek waves. There are two techniques you can apply while the hair is still hot from the blow dryer. One method is to wrap the hair around the round brush and leave it there until the hair cools down, then carefully release the brush.

The other option is to remove the brush while the hair is still warm and pin the curl in place until it cools.

Once your hair is completely dry, you may use heat styling tools to accentuate and perfect the style. A straightening iron can smooth wavy sections or difficult curly roots, and a curling wand can give you a variety of looks using your smooth blow-dried hair as a foundation.
